What about work and employment in agriculture in Africa?

The International Association on Work in Agriculture (IAWA) and the work – employment task force of the TSARA initiative propose a webinar to share with you an overview of the current researches on work and employment in agriculture in Africa. Based on a 10 years literature review and on keynote presentations, the webinar will introduce and put into discussion the major topics attached to work and employment, in a continent, Africa, which experiences a huge demographic increase and questions its development models. The ability of the agricultural sector to provide quality jobs for all in the future notably youth and women, is at stake.

The webinar will be held on December 5st 2024, from 11 am to 2 pm CET (Central European Time), with simultaneous translation into French, English, BR Portuguese and Spanish.

Literature review was realized with the partnership of INRAE (France), INERA (Burkina Faso), ISRA (Senegal), Cirad (France) and IAV Hassan II (Morocco).

The IAWA - International Association on Work in Agriculture - brings together the research and development community studying agricultural work around the world, with the aim of crossing disciplinary and thematic entries. The aim is to understand, analyze and compare the realities of work and workers in agriculture and to reflect on the future of work.

The TSARA initiative (Transforming food systems and agriculture with a partnership research with Africa) gather 26 institutions form Europe and Africa. The workemployment task force develops scientific leadership activities and develop projects dealing with the development of decent, productive and attractive work in agriculture in Africa.
